Nice to meet you
Hello, my name is Esmeralde van Vliet. Together with my partner and our three kids, I live in the center of Amsterdam. I am running for a seat on the city district council.
I hope you feel happy and welcome in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam = the people who live here: do you know you can vote the 16th of March 2022?
I am a native Amsterdammer but I have also lived abroad. I want you, my non-Dutch speaking neighbours, to feel welcome. Maybe you came here for work bringing in your energy and expertise to the many (tech-) companies, or maybe you fell in love with the city. I see you participating actively in our community. I see lots of nice parents bringing their kids to Dutch speaking schools. I see you walking your dogs in the street. I see your life here. Therefore, you are Amsterdam.
I am reaching out to you because you have a right to have a say in what happens in your neighbourhood. Did you know you could vote the 16th of March? Amsterdam has many voices and I want to hear your voice too.
Do you know how it works? To learn more about the election, have a look on the less than 4 minutes awareness video by my friend Nicolás Fuster on the bottom of this page.
How could I vote? EASY! All EU-citizens registred in Amsterdam can vote. If you are a non-EU citizen, you can vote and receive your pass if you are registred for > 2 years in the Netherlands.
1. You will receive beginning of March an envelope in your home adress (see pictures below) ‘STEMPAS’ (2 passes to vote). BRING THEM!
2. 16th of March: select an adress in your neighbourhood where you can use your vote the 16th of March. Close to your house. Usually a school, or a well know building. It opens early in the morning! Everybody can go either before work or after work.
3. Bring your ID and STEMPASSES. You will get a red pencil and a big form. Tick 1 box on each form of the person and party you want to give your vote too.
You need to be registred to live in Amsterdam before the 31st of January 2022 (most cases, if you live here you registred long time ago).
I would like to hear from you too: what do you think can be better in Amsterdam, and what do you like about your neighbourhood? Leave me a message via the ‘contact form’.
Perhaps you consider to vote D66 and like to support me:

An enduring greener city
Hi there! Maybe we have met on the streets while working on our city 'garden'. I believe there can be much more green in our city center. Since two years - with help of the local government and neighbours - we have transferred our streets to a place with much more space for plants, bees, flowers. You can do this too!
Amsterdam Westerkerk
Sustainable Urban Vehicle
Yes, this is me with our three kids. Image@Cycling_Embassy. The picture was taken by someone and went 'viral' on Twitter in the EU and USA. Amsterdammers are lviing their lives on two wheels. And happily so. I do think that the city can be much safer, with dedicated space for bicycles.
Why voting?
